Momence Meadow workers unite to win healthcare

New union, new stregnth means a strong voice for nursing home workers

What does it mean for workers that SEIU Healthcare Illinois & Indiana is the largest healthcare union in Illinois – with strong nursing home organizing rights? It means that eighty new nursing home workers are now united with SEIU Healthcare Illinois & Indiana after winning card check recognition July 21st, and will soon receive healthcare.

Effective September 1, Momence Meadow will join the overwhelming majority of SEIU Healthcare Illinois & Indiana nursing home members who have health insurance.

Momence healthcare workers were placed under the master contract agreement for nursing homes on August 1st. Their victory was made possible by workers winning a contract requiring nursing home owners to stay neutral in organizing drives if that owner is part of the nursing home master agreement.

They Momence Meadow workers have all the rights won by more than 9,000 other nursing home care providers. It also means that they will be a part of wage and healthcare benefits reopener talks that will begin this fall.
